Located in the heart of a historic village beside a Grade I listed church, this project involved the sensitive restoration and transformation of a listed farmhouse. Delivered in two phases, the scheme carefully repaired and enhanced the original building while removing a series of unsympathetic additions and replacing them with contemporary extensions that better support modern family life.
Working closely with the conservation officer throughout the design process, a bold yet respectful approach was developed for the new additions. The extensions reflect the scale, form and materiality of the original farmhouse while remaining clearly identifiable as contemporary interventions. Extensive glazing and open-plan living spaces create a striking contrast to the more traditional character of the historic house, strengthening connections to the beautiful garden and surrounding countryside.
CaSA provided a fully integrated architectural and interior design service, collaborating closely with the client, kitchen designer and landscape designer to create a cohesive and carefully considered home. Sustainability and comfort were key drivers throughout the project, with the incorporation of an air source heat pump, rainwater harvesting, solar control glazing and underfloor heating, ensuring efficient, comfortable living throughout the year.
