Located in the heart of Marshfield, a historic Cotswold village, this contemporary replacement Passivhaus dwelling occupies a discreet burgage plot within the conservation area. The site forms part of Marshfield's distinctive medieval settlement pattern, characterised by long, narrow plots extending from the historic High Street. The design carefully responds to this sensitive setting, balancing the village's rich architectural heritage with the clients' ambition for a highly sustainable, future-focused home that meets Passivhaus standards.

The new three-bedroom home combines traditional materials with modern Passivhaus principles. A simple palette of locally sourced Cotswold stone, larch cladding and natural slate creates a building that sits comfortably within its context, while expressing a distinctly contemporary character. The house is accompanied by a carport and workshop, connected to the main dwelling by a sheltered loggia that helps define the arrival sequence.

The design is centred around a south-facing outdoor living space affectionately referred to by the clients as the “veranda”. This sunny, sheltered space extends the home into the landscape and encourages year-round connection with the garden.
